Tâi-uân siōng phānn
TAGLINE 曼哈頓的臺灣日常 · Feel the POP Taiwan's Daily Life in Manhattan · Feel the POP MAY — SEP 2026

Siōng phānn」 is a Taiwanese term for something
that feels right at the highest level —
bold, sharp, and fully alive.
It's not just style or hype. It's a way of living.

When everything clicks — the timing, the mood, the energy — that's siōng phānn.
Sounds and stories from Taiwan land across the city, showing up in everyday spaces. You don't need to explain it. You feel it.

Our culture moves, finds its rhythm, and brings the city with it.
Taiwan POP isn't a single event. It's a presence already part of New York.

Taipei Cultural Center
in New York · 35th Anniversary

Over the past 35 years, Taiwan's music has filled concert halls in New York, its works have appeared in major museums, its films have played in downtown cinemas, and its dancers have taken the stage across Manhattan.
Over time, Taiwan has built a real presence here — with its own audience and its own place.

Multiple ethnic groups, layered histories, East and West running together — these conditions shaped Taiwan's distinct cultural character. Holding onto tradition while pushing forward. Rooted in the island, reaching toward the world.

Out of this cultural DNA, Taiwan's artists keep talking to the world through writing, image, sound, and movement — telling the story of this island.

FEEL THE BEAT

Body & Sound

Taiwan's music and dance don't come in one form.

There's the Paiwan chant passed down from Tawu Mountain for a thousand years. There's the pianist who spent a career working out how to play a phrase on the world's biggest stages. There's the contemporary dancer using their body to ask what a traditional symbol means right now. There's pop music opening up across Central Park on a summer afternoon, reaching the whole city at once. Each is complete on its own. They all grew in the same cultural soil.

Multiple peoples coexisting, histories running parallel — all of that built a particular way of seeing. From the edge, from the gaps, translating personal experience into something that travels. Taiwan's filmmakers, writers, and artists have been doing this on the international stage for a long time. The marks are still there.
